Men's Foot Sizing Database

We are working on a database of men’s foot sizes and would love all your input. If you can take a minute to measure your foot and/or the feet of any men nearby, we would REALLY appreciate it. In fact, we would appreciate it so much that on April 7th, one week from today, we will randomly select one person who responded and send you a free skein of yarn.

So here is what we need:

US Men’s Size

foot length from back of heel

circumference around ball of foot

circumference at widest part of calf and measurement from this point to bottom of heel

circumference around ankle (where the foot pivots)

Ram II

In case you ignored the email newsletter, haven't seen the ads on Ravelry or heard about it on the podcasts, the second Ram Club series is now open for sign ups! Ram II will begin in February, soon after the first series ends, but don't wait till then to sign up. To ensure good quality and customer service space IS limited and the club is filling up fast. About half of our members have received their packages now, but it will still be a while before all our of international members have their kits. So if you'd like to post pictures in your Ravelry notebook or anywhere else, please use this spoiler image as the "cover" photo or at the beginning of your blog post. That way other members won't accidentally catch sight of the kit before theirs arrives. Thanks!

First Shipment

The international packages will ship out tomorrow (Tuesday) and the rest will follow by the end of the week. A lot of people look forward to the surprise of opening a box filled with unknown gifts, so be careful about what you say on this blog or in the Ravelry group. There will be a "Spoiler" thread in the Ravelry thread where we can talk about the package, so if you want to be surprised don't open that thread! Once all the packages have been received we will post an "all clear" here on the blog and you'll know its safe to share photos and talk about the project wherever you want.

Getting Closer...

Can you believe its already July? That means that the first Ram Club shipment is just a month away! So that I have time to dye the yarn and order other little extras, we need to have a final head count soon. So, if you have been thinking about signing up now is the time to do it. Also, please remind your friends that they are almost out of time. We are going to stop taking sign-ups next Wednesday, July 9th. Remember, you can either pay the entire fee up front (and get a discount) or pay in monthly installments. Sign up now, before its too late!!

I am getting really excited and can't wait to share our new patterns and colorways with you guys!

Designer Profile - StitchStud

Charles is a knitter, spinner, crocheter and a podcaster about fibre. He began knitting when he was 10 because he was inspired by his grade school teacher, a group of Colombian male shepherds who knit, and his father, a different kind of renaissance man, but one with a shared vision for creativity. By 20 he was working in a knitting store, had designed and sold about 10 custom sweaters under his own label, and beginning to spin and weave a little. He put it all away for a few years which spanned his master's degree in language education, getting married, having 2 sons, and many other distractions. About three years ago, he started knitting and designing again, primarily for family and to bust his stash of his dated yarn in favour of new ones full of soft merino, and hand-painted colour-ways. A little over a year ago he started blogging at jigraknits and in the summer of 2007 began a podcast called Stitchstud and His Bride (stitchstud.podbean.com). Charles has often bemoaned the scarcity of men's patterns, but has chosen to stop whining and to get involved in the design arena in order to contribute designs for men. He is very excited to be designing for the Unique Sheep and the Ram Club!
Charles' Ravelry name is STITCHSTUD.

Colourway Poll

There will be three colourways in the Ram Club, one for each pair of socks. The surprise factor for the members may not be what everyone wants, because let's face it, we all remember that awful knit gift that we received and, well, the colour was all wrong. Therefore, to address this anxiety of the colours of the yarn you'll receive, we are going to let you vote on ONE of the colourways that will be used. It will not necessarily be the first colourway for the first pattern for socks that you get, but the colourway with the majority vote will appear at some point during the life of the club. The less popular colourways will not be used as runners-up.
Now guys, although we have received knitwear whose colour we don't care for, we've also been on the receiving end of great surprises. We're adventurous, and we like risks. To that end, the other two colourways will remain a surprise in keeping with most yarn clubs out there. Okay the poll...

Club Details

Ram Club shipments will arrive every other month for 6 months (3 shipments) beginning in August, 2008
Each shipment has a retail value of over $40, but Ram Club members pay only $30 (paid in advance) or $33 (paid monthly).
International Customers (Outside of the US): Extra shipping costs of $5 will be added to each shipment.
Registration will be limited and given on a first come-first serve basis and can be purchased on the Unique Sheep website
